The Nissan Skyline is a JDM icon, with the R32 (1989-1994), R33 (1993-1998) and R34 (1998-2002) generations the most sought-after by South African enthusiasts. All three run the legendary RB-family inline-six engines: the RB20DE/RB20DET 2.0-litre, the RB25DE/RB25DET 2.5-litre and — fitted to the GT-R variants — the RB26DETT twin-turbo 2.6-litre, which produced the homologated 206 kW figure that powered the Skyline GT-R to Group A and Bathurst dominance. AWD GT-R models use the ATTESA E-TS torque-split system with the Super-HICAS rear-steer setup; non-GT-R RWD models use a simpler driveline. Known issues include RB26 ceramic-turbine turbo failure (most cars now run aftermarket steel-wheel turbos), worn synchros on the Getrag 6-speed of the R34 GT-R, oil pump drive-collar failure on high-power RBs, and rust around the rear strut towers.
