The Nissan Magnite is a sub-compact crossover SUV launched in 2020 and built at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai, India. It rides on the CMF-A+ platform shared with the Renault Kiger and Renault Triber, which means a large share of its mechanicals — engines, transmissions, suspension components, electronics and interior trim — are interchangeable across the three sister cars. The South African Magnite is offered with two 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines: the naturally aspirated B4D 1.0L (around 53 kW) paired with a 5-speed manual, and the turbocharged HRA0 1.0L (around 74 kW) available with either a 5-speed manual or a Jatco JF015E CVT. The CVT is the most-discussed weak point of the platform — owners report jerky low-speed engagement, shudder when cold, and cases of premature pulley/belt wear if fluid changes are skipped. Other common gripes include rattling interior trim, oil leaks from the turbo feed line on early HRA0 units, and wheel-bearing noise.
